Who said techno music is a man’s game? Several female pioneers come to mind as well as the many female artists who are really big on the scene right now. Over the last ten years the number of women being booked at electronic music festivals has more than doubled. While parity is still far away, this clear progression and their increasing visibility is encouraging. Charlotte de Witte, Flemish DJ and thirtysomething producer is one of the leading lights of the movement. Putting out minimal and acid techno like the master she is, this native of Ghent has also launched her own label, KNTXT. Having released her first EP in 2013 using the male pseudonym Raving George, she reverted to her real name in 2015 and has released numerous successful EPs, notably last year’s Universal Consciousness and Apollo.
